Our Roots

My life has always been shaped by nature, creativity, travel, and community. Surf & Turf started as a feeling — sparked back in 7th grade during the 2020 quarantine. I spent months tucked away in northern Michigan: exploring hiking trails, swimming in Lake Michigan, and spending time with my immediate family. The quiet helped me appreciate the world around me — but also made me realize how much I missed people, energy, and shared experiences. That’s when the idea hit: build something that welcomes and brings together land and sea, art and adventure, introverts and thrill seekers — a community that connects, creates, and explores together, worldwide. Remote or in-person. Coastal or inland: Surf & Turf.

the rise of fast fashion

The Pulse

As things opened back up after the pandemic, I found myself drawn to thrift stores as a social outlet. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion for clothing and self-expression. Throughout high school (and still today), my entire closet has either been thrifted or sustainably sourced. I realized how limited the access to affordable resale or sustainable products is in certain areas — we aim to change that.

Around the same time, fast fashion giants exploded in popularity. The prices were tempting, but behind the scenes were serious issues: environmental damage, unfair labor practices, and clothes made to fall apart fast. Surf & Turf was initially created on clothing resale apps to push back on that — offering affordable gear that’s built to last.

We hope to make a bigger contribution rooted in community and shifting the focus to making sustainability feel cool, affordable, and easy to be part of.
